Conference Theme:
"25 Years of Promoting best Practices"

The Liberal Arts Network for Development is an organization open to all those involved in the liberal arts at Michigan’s community colleges. LAND was formed to engender closer ties and facilitate communication in an effort to meet the needs of those teaching and administering liberal arts programs and curricula throughout Michigan.

Statement of Purpose

LAND seeks to develop and to promote a network for strengthening the liberal arts in Michigan community colleges.

Objectives

  • Explore the values and relevance of the liberal arts to our colleges and communities
  • Unify and integrate the liberal arts with our curricula as appropriate
  • Identify and work toward improving liberal arts instruction
  • Plan for the immediate, short-term, and future needs of liberal arts education and instruction
  • Meet on a regular basis to work toward achieving the above objectives

The Annual LAND Conference

This year LAND is celebrating its 25th year. The Conference Planning Committee is excited about meeting old friends and making new ones in Port Huron at the Thomas Edison Inn.

As in the past, the conference will offer presentations centered on the following clusters:

English/Communication

Fine Arts

Humanities/Performing Arts

Mathematics/Natural Sciences

Multiculturalism/Diversity

Social Sciences

Technology

At the luncheon on Friday, we will announce the winners of the eleventh annual awards for Excellence in Institutional Leadership and for Outstanding Innovation to teams from Michigan community colleges. We will also honor the winners of the Student Art Competitions, the Student Creative Writing Competition, and the Student Scholars Competition at the luncheon.

Other activities are planned, including a Wednesday evening Welcome Reception at the hotel (included in registration fee), at which attendees can meet our featured speakers and members of the conference planning committee, and a Thursday evening offsite activity. In addition to sessions presented by colleagues and roundtable discussions of timely topics, this year we have added poster sessions as another way to participate in the conference.

Welcome Reception - Wednesday, February 17

Join us for a light buffet reception at the Thomas Edison Inn from 7 to 9 p.m. Meet and network with the keynote speakers, session presenters and other LAND attendees.
